A version of this article by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistleblowerlawyerblog.com\/new_qui_tam_whistleblower_law_2\/\">whistleblower lawyer blog<\/a> author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qui-tam-litigation.com\/msullivan.htm\">Michael A. Sullivan  <em>[1]<\/em><\/a> has just been published in the October 2007 <em>Georgia Bar Journal<\/em>.  For ease of reading, we have divided the article in six parts&#8211;this is Part 1.<\/p>\n<p>The federal False Claims Act <em>[2] <\/em>has inspired a wave of new state False Claims Acts with qui tam whistleblower provisions, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistleblowerlawyerblog.com\/new_york_becomes_latest_state\/\">the New York False Claims Act<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistleblowerlawyerblog.com\/oklahoma_joins_nationwide_move\/\">the Oklahoma Medicaid False Claims Act<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whistleblowerlawyerblog.com\/new_whistleblower_law_on_medic_1\/\">the Georgia State False Medicaid Claims Act<\/a> <em>[3] <\/em>in 2007 have joined sixteen other state laws that allow qui tam whistleblowers to pursue cases based on fraud and false claims that rob taxpayers&#8217; dollars.<\/p>\n<p>These new state qui tam whistleblower laws are critical to stopping fraud against taxpayers. For example, in April 2007, the Georgia Legislature enacted a state version of this important-but commonly misunderstood-federal law, the False Claims Act.
