{"id":1767,"date":"2008-08-03T17:47:59","date_gmt":"2008-08-03T17:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/wordpress\/accident_data_to_be_released_t\/"},"modified":"2024-12-17T16:06:01","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T21:06:01","slug":"accident-data-to-be-released-t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.finchmccranie.com\/blog\/accident-data-to-be-released-t\/","title":{"rendered":"Accident Data To Be Released To The Public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a major victory for consumers, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia  ruled last week that information that automobile and tire manufacturers submit to the government about crashes resulting in death, injury and property damage is subject to release to the public under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).<\/p>\n<p>The case was brought by the public interest consumer group Public Citizen. In its ruling the Court rejected the argument of the Rubber Manufacturers Association that it is exempt from FOIA\u2019s disclosure mandates.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 2003 enactment of the  Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, manufacturers have been required to submit the information, referred to as &#8220;early warning data,&#8221; to the government.
